The Journals of Vaernas of the Valley

Locked away in a protected and guarded section of the Vienus Falls archives, is a collection of twenty thick bound books, with frail, ancient pages. Many are bound in leather in various types and colors. The construction of each ranges from advanced, to simple. They're the kind of books one handles in magically static environments, with special gloves, under supervision. Despite ranging for ages, longer than some civilizations last, the hand writing never changes. These thirty-seven books of various sizes all make up one priceless collection from one of the most genius minds the world had ever seen.   Or there are supposed to be. Some of them are missing.   In 237:Quiet, three books went missing, the three ones in which Vaernas went through her most dangerous phase of magical experimentation: Biomancy. The Inquisition have opened up an investigation into the missing volumes, and the apprehension of the thief is the most important item on their plates.

Significance

Vaernas of the Valley ruled Ghenna from the Age of Awakening until she was unseated in Red-Eye's Rebellion, and during her lifetime wrote a long collection of journals. The most valued are her writings about the nature of magic. Throughout her lifetime Vaernas was the most accomplished mage of all time, including many breakthroughs about the nature of magical energy, and her rules of magic are still used today. The various journals of Vaernas of the Valley are also full of now illegal magic. These journals are priceless artifacts, relevant in the study of the magical arts, as well as historical documents from the head of Ghennan state for multiple ages. Other versions of these journals exist, copied out in many hands, witht he bad parts taken out. Some alternative publications only focus on magic, some only on history. The originals are a mis-mash of both, thoughtful introspection, hypothetical surmises, and hand-written glyphs.
