Fount of Health

When the Old Gods still remained, there was an island reaching far above others, nearly touching the sky. There, a group settled and created their own kingdom. At the top of this island was a fountain, where the water ran clean and fresh. Those who drank from it had their wounds healed, illnesses removed. From the water a spirit appeared, asking for payment. She received trinkets, and the spring continued to be used.
As time went on, the spirit asked for payment, but was refused more and more. Soon she refused to allow access to the spring, and when the people living on her island grew angry, she cursed them and the island itself.
"Your people will find no home. Your families will wander the oceans, and you will find no rest"
The island sank beneath the waves, until only the rocky mountaintop was left, and the people left their home, journeying across the waters. With them they took a map, old and faded but still strong, which they split into pieces. If they could not return home, no one else could either. They travelled with the pieces, trading them away for supplies and trinkets, letting the directions to the silent rock fade with the currents of time. --condensed version from a compendium of folklore

Summary

A story about a healing spring found in the Brosha region. The legend talks about the people who lived there prior and how the entire island sunk to the bottom of the ocean.

Historical Basis

The area of Silent Rock does exist, as does the healing spring described.

Spread

A relatively obscure legend, though in Brosha and Eilt Un it is more common. Mutated forms are found in Aquimore.

Variations & Mutation

The area Silent Rock is supposed to be has changed drastically in all directions, as well as who exactly lived on the island itself.
The method of sinking changes from Qhil's involvement to the people deliberately sinking the island.
The guardian as well changes from a benevolent mother figure to a hulking demon, occasionally appearing as an innocent child forced to gain maturity as the humans take advantage of her repeatedly.
In Aquimore specifically, the legend is used to warn against magic, and to fear the ocean entirely.

In Art

Paintings of the island are found in multiple areas, often done by people who have never been outside of their country. Thus, the terrain and colouring often reflects the area it was made in.
