Kürl Buhnu Organization in Massaolo | World Anvil

Kürl Buhnu

"You're undisciplined, crude, and reckless. You attack and sink ships for personal gain with little regard for those caught in the crossfire." "Yes, but we're on your side."
Broch Mammärl responding to a critic
The Kürl Buhnu are a collection of pirate hunters in the employ of the Crown lands of Demia. They are traditionally made up mostly of reformed pirates as well as former navy sailors and marines. The organization is described by many as 'anti-pirates' as their tactics are similar to those of the pirates they hunt; ambush, false-flag sailing, and pack hunting. While the Buhnu are sanctioned by the Demian Crown, both the captains within the organization and the organization as a whole have a high degree of autonomy, able to freely choose their targets, areas of operation, and even fly their own banners.

Structure

The organization of the Kürl Buhnu is extremely loose and it is only nominally loyal to the Demian Crown in practice. The organization is placed under the authority of the Kolmjo, who is appointed by the Ekärti from among the organization's captains. The individual captains are largely autonomous, able to fly their own banners and choose where in the ocean to hunt, only paying lip service to the Kolmo and the Crown, as well as collecting the bounties on their captured prizes.

Public Agenda

The Kürl Buhnu exists in order to rid the seas of pirates and keep merchant ships safe along their trade routes.

Assets

As a whole the Kürl Buhnu has over two hundred captains who pledge their allegiance to the organization. Each captain is in command of at least one vessel and higher ranking captains may command a handful. The loose nature of the organization prevents the Kürl Buhnu from utilizing these forces as a proper navy would, however.
