Charon

Charon is the ferryman of the The Underworld. He serves the Lord of Death, and is a psychopomp who carries the souls of the newly deceased across the River Styx and River Acheron that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead. A coin to pay Charon for passage, was sometimes placed in or on the mouth or on the eyes of the dead.
