Rand Enterprises

Rand Enterprises is an international corporation that has ties to many different industries, most notably pharmaceuticals. Though originally founded by Wendall Rand and his business partner Harold Meachum, tragedy struck when the Rand family was lost in a plane crash, leaving Harold to become the sole CEO.   Rand has come under heavy criticism for its monopolistic style of charging exorbitant amounts for its pantented life-saving medicines and disregard for the environment and surrounding areas near its chemical plants.

History

Wendall Rand founded the company with Harold Meachum in 1974, originally starting as a small distributor of pharmaceutical equipment. Though the original title of the company was Rand-Meachum Inc, the brand was quickly changed to Rand Enterprises due to Wendall's increased financial investments in the company.   Though the company started small, eventually with the rise in medical and pharmaceutical research and development, Rand Enterprises found themselves expanding at a rapid pace in the mid 80's to the early 90's. They expanded their reach into developing their own medicines and prescription drugs, opening a new office building and starting work on research centers in other areas of the US. Harold also oversaw the company's expansion into investment and entrepreneurial opportunities, netting them small yet profitable shares of other organizations and research companies such as Oscorp.   In 1999, Rand Enterprises grew even more, becoming one of the most profitable publicly traded companies and expanding their operations further. However, there were reports that the continued growth had caused tensions between Howard and Wendall. While Wendall wanted to pursue a more philanthropic approach to their medicines by selling the products nearly at cost, Harold wanted to charge more for the drugs with the viewpoint that they needed more revenue to keep funding research opportunities.   In 2001, Wendall and his family were traveling to China when their plane crashed somewhere over the Himalayan mountains. Though teams were sent and found some parts of the wreckage, the bulk of the wreck and the bodies were not able to be recovered. Wendall and his family were declared deceased 12 weeks later, and Harold took over Rand Enterprises as the sole CEO.   Speaking about the event, Harold announced, "Wendall was not only my business partner, he was my friend. He was a brother to me, and though myself and the world will mourn his loss, I know he would want us to keep striving forward even without him. Everything we do now, we do in his memory. Long live Rand."   Since then, Rand Enterprises has focused more on profit margins and raised the prices of its pharmaceuticals across the board, which has garnered a lot of criticism, as many of its medicines are patented and do not have generic options available. In 2012, it was also discovered that one of Rand's international chemical plants had been leaking off dangerous radioactive gases, devastating the flora and fauna around it. Harold has remained steadfast in defending Rand, stating that "sometimes the price of progress is high, but it is always worth it."   In 2013, Harold's daughter Joy and his son Ward joined the company. In recent years, Harold has retreated from the limelight and his children have started taking his place as the public face of Rand.
