Honeypot Cactus
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Honeypot Cactus has a thorny bulbous base, from which extends a large colorful flower.
This flower acts as a funnel, drawing water into its hollow interior, where the water is then treated with a cocktail of enzymes that make it viscous and acidic.
The flower also acts to draw in it's prey.
After an insect or small animal lands on the flower they are drawn to the sweet smell that emanates from within the cactus. As they tread deeper toward this forbidden treasure, they become stuck in the viscous fluid and often die of exhaustion or drown.
The cactus' prey are then broken down and absorbed by the interior walls of the cactus.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Honeypot Cactus is a carniverous plant.
