Konrad Gerlach, Margrave von Rabenwald

Konrad is Margrave of Rabenwald, the territorial state where Wunschau is located. Initially, he sent two messengers, Ingolf and Gunther, to inform the party that he wishes to speak to them.   When they arrive, Konrad, through his kastellan Florian von Ecke, offers them to undertake an expedition across the river, to the environs of the largely depopulated city of Hegenburg, which he claims. He wanted them to scout out the area, get any remaining residents to pledge their loyalty to him in exchange for farming the land tax-free for five years, and to report, or kill, any troublemakers in the area. The party, in turn, wanted Konrad to grant them a charter allowing them to distill spirits in his domains. Eventually, they struck a deal. The Margrave granted them a little overhead money, promised more in exchange for valuable information and dead troublemakers, and a charter for distillation. He also said he would consider a request to grant them some land, pending the conclusion of a successful scouting mission. He also gave them a charter that would demonstrate they are working for him, though, as they are aware, the ownership of the land beyond the river is contested by his uncle, the Landgrave of Greifswald.   Konrad is a man in his late 30s or early 40s. As some of the party members remarked later, he looks like a man who stopped caring about 20 years ago. He is married to Hildegard Gerlach, Countess von Rabenwald, a woman who is possibly more aloof than he is. And he apparently has a son, Sigismund, who is rumored to have a chronic illness.   The Margrave was encountered a second time when the party returned with bandit prisoners from their first foray into the Hegenburg region. He was initially pleased with them, imprisoned the bandits, gave them some information about Matilda, and invited them to stay in the stables. When it was revealed that two members of the party had contracted lycanthropy, he was taken aback, and asked them to leave, though this was the night of All Souls' Eve, and dangerous spirits were about.
