Bertram
Bertram is the aged father of Edmon. He was a porter in Brillig who was recruited as a hewer of stone for Schloss Horstkopf. Having participated in several extended construction projects at the castle, he was noticed by the Margrave von Horstkopf and eventually, rewarded by being allowed to retire at the castle. His son - a strapping young lad, was trained as one of the castle guards, with a view to making a living as a mercenary once he became of age. However, his wife, Gretel, died shortly after the move.
Bertram still performs various menial tasks around the castle. He was charged with moving some stone into the Wallia family crypt, with which his son helped him. He commended Edmon for being invited to Amala's funeral, but added that the boy should be thinking about his future.
