When Radagast, the most powerful sorcerer known to Illeshire goes against the wishes of The Citadel and sets off in search for The Well Of Souls, he sets in motion a cataclysm.   He drinks from the well, and learns the true size of the universe. For one so motivated by accomplishments and so dominated by ego, learning how insignificant and small he is compared to the infinity of the universe drove him mad - earning him the moniker The Mad Bastard.   In his nihilistic rage, he attempts to destroy the well. He fails, the resulting explosion eviscerating the surrounding town and land , creating a massive creator. The Well is a multi-dimensional , eternal object. It is residual energy left over from the creation of the universe and exists in multiple places at once. The explosion is so powerful it rips a hole in the fabric of the space. The resulting hole allows The Dark Heart - the diametric opposite of The Well- to seep into our dimension.   The peoples destroyed by the explosion are turned into Voidspawn. Radagast , armed with his new knowledge and relative disregard for the sanctity of life , overthrows The Old Kingdom. He destroys The Citadel and sets up a new empire in its place. He calls it The Citadel , in mockery of his former masters . The main objective of his new Kingdom is to contain the Voidspawn , unbeknownst to its inhabitants.   After the cataclysm (covered up as a volcanic eruption) , the surviving members of The Old Kingdom & The Citadel - hence forth known as The Old Council - flee into hiding.   Princess Xera and her lover Amarth fake their and their infant sons deaths and flee. They are unaware that there are survivor's fighting to regain control of the Kingdom.   16 years later , their child and his new younger siblings discover their true identities as the only surviving heirs to the throne. They are driven from their home , hotly pursued by The Citadel. They must reach the resistance and begin the long road to reclaim The Kingdom. They are unaware of the bigger threat , to the very universe which they inhabit, perpetrated by The Dark Heart.   Also follow along as characters raised and indoctrinated by The Citadel slowly realise the imperfections of their perfect Kingdom , and characters enslaved in The Mines (the site of the cataclysm) are forced to fight the voidspawn until their deaths.   Read along as their stories intertwine and overlap , in a story of Balance and Consequence , and a fight for the survival of our dimension.
