The Naming of the Jewel
Two months before Festival season, usually on the first weekend of MayDay, the entire kingdom will hold their breath in anticipation, as the public ceremony for the naming of their Jewel. This public ceremony is the highlight of the spring social season, confirming an honor like no other on a young person of marriable age.
After the presentation of the Jewel, it is also announced which advisors will be traveling with the ruling family for Festival, and which advisors have been picked for that season to represent the kingdom as Royal Advisors. The Naming of the Jewel is one of the kingdom's most important ceremonies, representing the biggest opportunity to receive honor.
History
Naming ceremonies really became popular about 10 years after The Ice Queen initialed the first Jewel for Festival. up until then, the selection, while seen as an honor, was not something the whole kingdom was invested in, the honor of Jewel was not yet something every girl wished for. Ever since then the ceremonies have been getting more public and more elaborate, as they are now the main celebration of the might and strength of the kingdom. It is the selection and public naming of the best of us. And everyone crosses their fingers and wishes it was them, and then they publicly get behind who was chosen instead of them. Such is the way of things.
Participants
The ceremony is presided over by the ruling family of the kingdom, and all of their advisors will be in tow. Many of the leaders from the bigger towns in the city will travel to the kingdom's capital for the event with their advisors too. The showcase of the naming, the prospective Jewels will be positioned front and center, decked out in all white, in less elaborate versions of court dress. Their numbers have usually been narrowed down to about 10 or 12 at this point. Past Jewels will also come to the ceremony as honored guests, and with them dressed in light pastel colors, and the officials dressed in darker jewel tones, it makes for quite the attractive pictures for all of the reporters in attendance.
Most of the city who can come out for the event (they will have all been following the progress of the prospective Jewels, and will have inevitably started betting on favorites), and after the naming the capitals erupt in giant street parties, almost as pre-engagement celebrations.
