The Shaman of Fish

Written by blueconlanger

Shaman Fali Detsen (a.k.a. Sxaza ti Cxin)

Fali Detsen was born as the son of the shaman of the Detsen-tribe. (The "Detsen" was one of the 19 tribes of the Fonezian-Island.) As in many other tribes, the shaman was very powerful. He could understand nature and the spirits of it. The only ones who were more powerful than the shaman were the chieftain and the spirits themselves.   Unlike most shamans, Shaman Fali Detsen became famous amongst other tribes and hundreds of years after his death people still knew his name. In fact, the time count of most tribes starts at the year Fali Detsen wrote history by changing the law and tradition of the Detsen tribe forever.   In Fonezian beliefe, humans are descendents from fish. Therefor, it was forbidden to eat fish since eating a fish would make you consume its spirit/soul, and that would be an insault to all of mankind. When the population of the Detsen tribe increased, it became hard find enough food for everyone and some started to starve. Fali Detsen didn't like to see his people suffer from starvation and he thought that if people would start to eat fish, there would be enough food for everyone, for storong and for weak. Then he thought that if the soul of a fish could get washed away somehow from a person who eat it, there wouldn't be any problem with people eating them. The shaman spent years of thinking until one day when he thought he got the answer: If a man gets put in the sea instead of in the ground when he dies, then his soul should go into the water amongst the fish souls and be free. After years of talking to and teaching the people of the ways of water and spirits he convinced most of them that eating fish and being water-buried was a good way of life. The chietain of the tribe did not agree with the shaman, but relised that he had to listen to what the people said and so he made it legal to eat fish in reasonable amounts. Shaman Fali of Detsen was known as "Sxaza ti Cxin" (The Shaman of Fish) ever since.
