Kami-Hagane (kah-mee-hah-guh-nay)

During the Nights of a Thousand Fangs, the timultous year in which demons appeared and began destroying the shogunate lands and its people, a family of bladesmiths set out into the Makoto mountains to gather materials to forge weapons for the empire's warriors. for generations, the Batsurai family had forged weapons for the armies of the empire. they were known for simplicity, yet unfailing edge and sturdiness in battle. the family had lived in the lands around the Makoto mountains and had harvested ore from those lands so often that every member of the family knoew the land well. despite the stories of recently sighted demons, and the danger the mountain itself posed, the 4 eldest siblings of the Batsurai clan ventured onto the dangerus paths because the local armies desperately needed new armaments. after a few days, gathering what meager deposits they could find, one stumbled onto a outcropping of strange mineral. the ore grew out of the ground in matrixed spikes similar to the way crystal forms. green in translucent hue, the crystal was veined with minute striations of crimson and ebony. after careful inspection, it was realized to in fact be a metallic ore. when slagged, the ore gave off very little waste. the ore needed more heat than steel to work, yet held the heat longer, making it quicker to work without worry of reheating the stock. as it was folded, the green hue desaturated to a clear translucence similar to a light blue glass, and the red and black veins faded to a pure silver. when quenched, the metal tempered and normalized to a room tempature in less than a minute. warriors that were gifted with one of the blades soon found a hunger from the blade and themselves to attune to the weapon. upon completion, the web of veins within the blade changed color. some became blades of a pure color, others developed complex, colored patterns. though every blade imprinted uniquely, they all had one thing in common; demons were vulnerable to them, and the blades cut through them as simply as they did water. the weapons made of the ore were a huge factor in ending the Nights of a Thousand Fangs.   the ore has since been named Kami-Hagane for god like intervention that brought the metal into the Batsurai families path.   as of present, the ownership of a kami-hagane blade in a sign of honor, and station. though some find the ore and forge makeshift weapons, only the Batsurai clan is crested by the emporer as a family to forge the sacred blades that are awarded by the shoguns and daimyos to the most honorable warriors. should the warrior prove dishonorable or unskilled, the Batsurai clan can reclaim a weapon and remand it to someone they find more worthy, or held until the warrior atones. in the strange case that this happens, the blade resets to its neutral silver, andforms its unique look upon its next attunement.
