Assets
The cult collected some shipwrecks salvages but also trinkets and objects of value from other aquatic races around the archipelago.
Divine Origins
The original species were antediluvian species of fish that were, over many forbidden rituals and alchemical processes orchestrated by the serpentfolk, accelerated their evolution process through mutative genetic manipulation. This cause the species to develop a bipedal shape over time, and their body became more and more strong, but the process had after effects on their mental capacities which didn't followed a similar progress: most specimen developped brain tumors and degeneracy fast over time, but it also was a benefit for the serpentolk has they could manipulate them even better. They thus developped a grand scheme to make the specimen believe in a false idol : Vishnek, which was considered one a unique powerful Palua which magic capacities, polymorphed as the false idol and the mesmers manipulated the species' dream into ingraining this tought.
A part of the divine is indeed connected to them in some shape, as during the manipulations, the serpentfolks made the carrions eat some of the Flesh of the Second Son, which gave them some limited connection to divine magic.
Cosmological Views
The world was greatest by the great wyrms. Over time, the gods left the world to their chosen children.
Later came the grand water drake, the Second Son. In time, the mighty beast fought a foe which led it dying, but not fully. Cause the ocean drake had eggs, which followed his dormant and battered body in the depths of the sea. Those eggs later on hatched and left their shell undone. But if was there a gift as their ancestor drank the bile of the sleeping Second Son contained in those eggs. It gave the species a gift: the power to grow by itself and rise above others, but this gift demanded a cost: for if the potency to remain, the chosen would have to awaken the dark god so their gifted blood powers remains, and for the drake to rise again.
