Appearance

An older gentleman wearing a well-worn travelling cloak around what was once a very expensive nobleman's attire. The joints and various other parts of his outfit have been expertly patched back together. The style of his outfit has not been 'in' for many years, and it seems to offer a great deal more mobility than suits that nobility tend towards. His tanned face is clean shaven and beginning to show the lines of many years. He does not carry any overt weapons or armour. His voice is a gravelly even tone, and he speaks rarely.

Silver Blade?

Gustav is not a famous man, but he has done great work. He wanders the island following his sense of duty or danger: seeking out leads towards those in need of his help. Much of his hardest work has been done in The Trolloch Federation (Region) where he has personally helped cull a variety of foul creatures that tend to prey on the innocent. He is definitely one of the oldest members of The Silver Blades still breathing.
He recently started spending more and more of his time putting his knowledge and experience together in a more permanent place: a leatherbound ledger in which he has chronicled his work. He offers his advice and occasionally his assistance to those who also seek to hunt out the creatures who dwell in the darkness.
No-one knows exactly how old he is, or what got him into a life of hunting things that dwell in the dark: but he seems awfully reluctant to talk about it. Those who are asking for his help are reluctant to press him for personal details for fear he will choose to ignore their pleas and leave them to their own devices.
There are many rumors about him, here is a brief sampling:

• He was once a farmer whose family was murdered by a Lycanthrope in the night except for his oldest son, who he had to personally put down after he turned. Ever since he's held a vendetta.
• He was a guard for a powerful wizard who meddled with forces too ancient, and failed to protect his charge. He took what knowledge he had of the creatures of darkness and seeks penance for his failures.
• He is not a human at all, but an angel in disguise - offering earthly aid to those in need 'on the down low'
• He is half man, half machine: rebuilt after a near death experience with supernatural criminal creatures found him at the mercy of a brilliant but quite insane scientist/alchemist.
• A vampire tried to turn him, but he was immune to their dark curse. Filled with rage at this: his dark 'benefactor' took everything he cared about before vanishing into the night. Many years later he still seeks his vengeance against this fellow.
