Jötungard
The plane of Neutral Evil is Jötungard. It’s governed by Ymir, King of Frost, King of the Giants. Within lies the Kingdom of Giants, from which all giants and giant-kind share their origin. It also houses Ymir’s Frostir, handpicked elite giantkin and champions of Ymir who keep a watchful eye on both the mortal plane and their own gates, protecting their king against anything that might trespass. Ymir keeps Jötungard sealed off from the rest of the planes with the giant wurm Jörmungr, that has wrapped itself around the entire plane. It is said that the great wurm has turned itself into stone, becoming an impenetrable fortress wall, and biding its time, waiting for Ymir's command to once again unleash it.
Jötungard's frigid wastes is a place of danger, and a place of challenge. Ancient, hulking, terrifying beasts stalk the plains of frost and ice, killing and eating anything that encroaches upon their territory. Legends tell of great champions that Ymir permit into his realm to slay these fantastic beasts, granting them immense rewards should they succeed, in addition to their own experiences from being permitted into his realm. To this day, there are still aspirants who attempt to find entrances into Jötungard only for a chance to test their mettle against monsters of legend.
The heavenly war between Odari and Ymir caused a piece of Jötungard to splinter off and crash into Malkor in the ancient times, and the mortals call these snowy mountains “the Jotu Mountains”, whereas the inhabitants of the actual plane call it “Utgard”. In the present day, Utgard is the only open passage into Jötungard, because of the linked origins. The giantkin rigidly guard the mountainrange, wherein the mortal entrance to Valheim is also said to be buried somehwere.
