Phandalin

“We’ve got good people here. A little rough and tumble, but their hearts are in the right place!”
-Elmar Barthen

Demographics

The many varied inhabitants of Phandalin have never been seen shying away from good, honest work, and are optimistic about the future of their town. With a broad mix of Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Halflings, and the occasional Gnome or Half-Orc, Phandalin has a surprising amount of diversity.

Industry & Trade

Despite it’s remote nature, Phandalin has recently become a hotspot for prospectors and adventurers trying to make a name for themselves. With the recent re-opening of Wave Echo Cave through the enterprising Gundren Rockseeker, dwarves and gnomes from Bal Morough to the North are flocking to help rediscover this lost treasure, and ensure that it is being used to its fullest once again.

Assets

Points of interest include Elmar Barthen’s General Store, the Lionshield Coster, and the local inn. There is also a place of worship built for the many varying religions of the people of Phandalin.

History

A recently built mining town, Phandalin is built nestled between the hills and ruins of the previously built city of Phandelver, the city built to supply and accommodate the dwarves and gnomes of Wave Echo Cave when it was in its height of production. While the town is a pale shade of its previous grandeur, the buildings of Phandlin are built on the solid foundations of the previous city that have lasted for centuries.

Architecture

Buildings in Phandalin range from roughshod, to well-built, with a wide mix in between. Walking down the dirt roads, there is a pervading sense of industry, as the inhabitants of Phandalin are constantly working to improve their station in life away from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities such as Neverwinter to the West, and Malaz City far to the South.   Thatched roofs were predominant up until a short time ago, however tile had been brought in to outfit the Inn as well as some of the other larger structures. More recently, Gundren Rockseeker has become the unofficial representative of the town, using his contacts in Neverwinter and Bal Morough to bring large trains of merchants to Phandalin, and causing a resurgence of growth and opportunity with the advent of the re-opening of the mines.
