Personal history

The elven twins Bvixel (male) and Bvixen (female) lead a very boring life (or so they say). Each morning is the same routine of waking up, having their employees dress them in a new outfit, enjoying a modest (sumptuous) meal in the main plaza of their place of employ, giving an inspiring speech before their employees start their days, and then returning to the main office where they work on paperwork for the remainder of the day.   What that paperwork consists of is something else entirely. Detailed reports on the comings and goings (no pun intended) for their clientele throughout the day, as well as any useful snippets that could be gleaned from the conversations with their employees. Equipped with the latest spells to ensure that no conversation is left unheard, their private rooms are enchanted personally by the twins, and checked each week to ensure the quality is perfect.   Growing up, the twins were always entranced by the human world, and were far more emotional than many of their elven brethren considered tasteful. Quick with jabbing words, and never to be found flat-footed in their wordplay, the twins quickly gained a reputation in their hometown as being far too mischievous for their own goods. After a particularly scathing argument between the twins and the ruler of their village in Porteva, the twins finally decided they had outstayed their welcome, and set out into the world on their own.   Travelling around the continent, they found they were always initially welcomed due to their affable, joking nature, but noticed it was only a matter of time until someone got a little bit too offended by their harmless jokes, and asked them to leave. Deciding they needed to explore outside the increasingly stuffy Porteva, the twins headed to the Broken Strand, where they found themselves in the employ of Pirate Lord Davis, ruler of the Isle of Bones in the Broken Strand. During this time, they had their fair share of adventure, finding treasure, fighting for their lives, and keeping the other pirate lords from encroaching on their boss’s territory.   For a while, this satisfied the twins, until one day they were captured by the rival Pirate Lord known simply as Gold. Gold brought the twins to his abode, and made them a deal. Knowing the morale boost that came from having these skilled elven fighters, but not wanting to incur the direct wrath of Davis, Gold gave the twins an ultimatum. The dragonborn Pirate Lord would give the twins gold, and allow them transport on one of his ships to a safe harbour on the other side of the world, provided they never show their faces in the Broken Strand again.   The twins, already bored of their pirating ways, agreed, and went on their way, eventually winding up in the port of Malaz. There, they quickly set to their old ways of making mischief until they were noticed by the Shroud. Rather than threatening the twins, the old leader of the Shroud recognized their intelligence and resourcefulness, and offered the twins the chance to run a “legitimate” business in the form of the Root and Cave, with the option of having complete control over the day to day, provided they worked closely with the Shroud going forward.   With this new opportunity, the twins set about to ensuring they did their best with the business, and quickly grew it into a hugely successful enterprise. Enamoured with the gathering of secrets, they found the influx of gossip was more than enough to satiate their curiosity, and discovered that where they had initially been seeking adventure, all they really wanted was freedom and power.
