Sir Alton Treadnight offers Lord Faron Alamar a position of power and wealth in exchange for his help entering Tormelis.

Sir Alton Treadnight extends the offer of power and prestige to Faron Alamar if he will assist him in entering the city. Alamar agrees. He proposes marriage to his love Adina Thycaris, asking her to join him. Thycaris refuses, and Alamar abandons her. Thycaris prepares to fight, but cannot bring herself to warn the king, fearing the consequences for the man she loves.
