Battle of Nias Peak

The Conflict

Prelude

The Drakynfly discovered that the Sword of the Moon was in the possession of Giants. For unknown reasons, this was unacceptable to them, and they mobilized a force to attack the tribes. The giants reacted by collecting warriors from five neighboring tribes.

Deployment

On the morn of the battle the Drakynfly ascending to fly around the tribes over Nias Peak. They decided that if they won, the victors would Shift back and act as reinforcements. With this decision, over two hundred Drakynfly duplicates exploded into existence, carefully removing matter from the structural supports of the tribes' dens. Many dens fell off the mountain face right then, and the rest of the giants tried to defend their position.

Battlefield

The hill known as Nias Peak, a rocky outcropping abutting the mountains between a pair of Bridges.

Conditions

Overcast, but with occasional sunbreaks.

The Engagement

Despite the Giants being heavily overwhelmed, their extreme tenacity and brute strength let them hold out their position for the entire first day and into the second. The drakynfly sustained minor losses. Eventually, at midday, when the giants had been reduced to ten final warriors, they surrendered, letting the Drakynfly take the Sword.

Outcome

The giants, completely destroyed, abandoned Nias Peak, the last ten of them returning to other tribes' dens. The drakynfly took the sword back to their hive, for whatever purpose they had of it.

Aftermath

The Masters were annoyed by the Drakynfly attacking the giants pointlessly, and confiscated the Sword from them, to take back to Oblivion City.

Historical Significance

Legacy

While the results led to endless hatred of the giants towards the Drakynfly, the Drakynfly resented the Masters' involvment afterwards. The Feirie and humans know next to nothing about the battle, and it is known only as 'that one skirmish about some treasure'. The connection to the Sword of the Moon is mostly lost.
