Mana Crystals
Crystals that have formed through links between mana and matter. Like stalactites and stalagmites, these crystals often form on the surface of rocks and other sturdy surfaces. Mana settles on a surface, and collects more matter over time. Greater concentrations of matter have a bigger gravitational field, meaning the bigger a crystal is, the more mana it will attract, and the faster it will grow.
Crystals made from a single element are often referred to as elemental crystals. A crystal made of mostly sulfur, for example, can be used to easily practice fire-based magic.
The purest mana crystals contain very little matter, just enough to hold them together. These are very fragile and unstable, as removing the slightest amount of mana could cause the crystal’s whole structure to fall apart. Mana crystals of 100% purity cannot exist naturally, as the mana will be pulled toward surrounding matter, dissolving the crystal. Impure mana crystals are common; often referred to as mana stones. They are easy to use, but don’t last very long, and are difficult to “recharge” due to their high concentration of matter.
