Eldorian Harvest Festival

Once a year the entirety of Eldor celebrates the harvest with a week long festival. The festival is celebrated on the second week after the capital finishes its' harvest. Villagers whom live close travel to the capital to take part in the biggest festival of them all, some even travel cross region to take part. This festival is regarded as the most important time of the year by most Eldorians. All seven days are celebrated by vast amount of food, alcohol, dancing and what inevitably follows.   The fourth day is called the night of masks, during this day everyone wear masks from noon until noon the next day. The reason for the night of masks was to strengthen the bond between all the citizens of the kingdom. When you only know who a few are, less prejudice are present. The effects of the masks hiding the identity of people makes it so nobles, merchants, commoners and peasants all mingle. Everything is let loose, all restrain is left at home when the masks are put on. The sense of everyone being the same and belonging in one big group is something to behold and experience at least once in a lifetime.

History

The harvests going back to the founding of the Kingdom of Eldor has always been celebrated. The first official Eldorian harvest festival predates the founding of the kingdom, it was held in year 171 by the nobles. Before this, the harvest festivals were less organized and held at different times as the peasants finished their harvests throughout Eldor. In the beginning the festivals were split up between the rich and the poor, the poor held them at their farms and villages and invited the surrounding peasants and villagers. The rich held them in their masions and the nobles in the castles.   Today the festivals are less about status and more about the tradition and happiness it brings, only the royal families celebrate on their own. Even the royal do on occasion join the nobles and the commoners for a night of pure madness and heavy drinking, mostly during the night of masks. The night of masks were introduced on the first festival after the founding of the kingdom.
