Arcane Delirium

A mental illness manifesting an arcane entity which feeds of arcane energy and slowly overtakes the host becoming its' own being of pure arcane. After the manifestation of the entity it alters the hosts' personality more or less permanently. The more power the entity gains, the more it alters the hosts' mind and the more control it gains over the host. The hosts' hunger for arcane power grows until the only objective is gaining more and more power, this is all controlled by the entity.

Causes

Improper execution of arcane spells and rituals can result in a manifestation of an arcane entity in the mind. It is also possible to manifest this entity by channeling an enormous amount of arcane energy through your body. Spellcasters meddling with spells far beyond mortal capability, are at extreme risk of almost instantly falling victim to one of these arcane entities.

Symptoms

The host will noticeably change personality becoming more self centered, seeking out arcane knowledge, power and capabilities more so than before. The more power the entity consumes the more signs become visable, more powerful arcane entities will be more obvious. The first signs will show fairly early by the eyes of the host beginning to faintly emit a bluish glow. As the entity becomes more powerful the eyes will turn more blue and increase the light emitted from them. It is reported that in the latest stages the entire skull of the host is glowing the same bluish colour.

Treatment

Isolating the victim from magic and preventing said victim from casting any spells for long period of time. When the victim and entity is starved from magic, casting dispel magic at a high enough level will dispel the arcane entity within the victims mind. Only twice this method has been recorded, yet both times it has been successfully accomplished. The victims psyche will be somewhat altered by entity, this seems to be permanent but not to the same degree as before the removal was carried out.

Cultural Reception

The arcane entities created are very powerful beings of pure arcane, which proposes a great threat to other living beings. This is why victims of Arcane Delirium are hunted down and killed out of fear for what they might create, some claim they kill them out of mercy.
