Strepor

Strepor is a small town in Karlik at the border of the Jagged Mountains. Half the town lies underground where its mining industry lays mining iron, silver, and mithril. Due to its population, the Council of Engineers has not deigned to put a Clockworks in.

Demographics

314 Dwarf, 28 Gnome, 17 Human, 5 Dragonborn, rest are a mix of other races in Player's Handbook.

Government

The local Governor is an appointed position from the Council of Engineers. The Governor collects the taxes on behalf of the Council and ensures that public works are funded properly. While appointed, the Council can investigate the Governor to determine if the Governor is progressing the Council's interests. The current Governor is a dwarf named Vladislav Vestrotop.

Defences

Due to its placement, there isn't a need for a major military outpost. There are a series of doors leading to the underground portion that can be closed and sealed in case either half of the city is being overwhelmed. There is a small number of guards, numbering barely 2 dozen in all including officers to guard and police the city.

Industry & Trade

A majority of the inhabitants are miners. The mining keeps the village afloat through trade with other towns. Mostly the raw ore is traded, although a limited amount of mithril is processed within the town. The town is fed through an underground farm and trade with local farmers. A single blacksmith works in town to construct and maintain the equipment the miners use.

Infrastructure

Several mine shafts are placed throughout the underground half of the village. There is a small trade depot above ground where the raw goods mined are transported to other cities to be processed and distributed to the rest of the country. There are two major inns, one above ground and one underground.

Assets

The primary assets of Strepor are the ores it mines. The most common metal the town exports is iron, followed by silver and mithril. The town is fed through a small underground farm for mushrooms and potatoes, along with trade between nearby farmers.

Guilds and Factions

There are very few factions within Strepor. The largest is the Miner's Association which organizes the miners and their associates. The other main faction are the guards, which number 23 members and are focused on city defence and policing.

History

Strepor doesn't have much of a history, established as one of many mining settlements along the Jagged Mountains by the Council of Engineers. Due to its size, it has no claim to any fame, even within Karlik. The people are hardy and trusted with the processing of the mithril they mine.

Architecture

The people of Strepor are practical, carving the underground buildings from the cavern walls instead of making their own. Above ground, they have utilized much of the stone mined out of the mountains to create squat, grey buildings. As many of the people work deep in the mines they do not see much value in artistic materials, and as such do not paint their homes or purchase artwork from the caravans that pass through.

Geography

Half the town is built above ground to facilitate trade with other towns in Karlik while the other half is underground. Many mine shafts are connected further underground where much of the population works in mining iron and other metals.

Natural Resources

Iron is the most plentiful resource collected by the people of Strepor. The mines also produce silver and mithril. The iron and silver is traded elsewhere raw for processing while the mithril is smelted into usable bars before being traded inland for production. The village only keeps enough iron to ensure that their mining equipment doesn't break. While not used for trade, there is a farm underground producing potatoes and mushrooms for the village while local farmers above ground help provide the village with the food needed to sustain itself.
