The Many Paths of the Lyssarian Waters

The Many Paths of the Lyssarian Waters are a series of journals written by the ship captain and explorer Darea Carata. These journals contain maps, logs and general guides about his travels in the oceans of Lyssaria.

Background

Darea was a captain of a trading ship from The Spears. Wanting to live a life of adventures Dareo sold all her possessions and gathered a crew for her new ship, one able to travel the most dangerous waters in Lyssaria. Darea started to document her voyage from the get go, writing even the simplest details. This attention to detail would fill dozens of journals through the years.

Contents of the journals

Through her voyage, Darea made note of how the currents in the oceans of Lyssaria changed according to the season. She discovered this after navigating the Ocean of Beasts and mapping its currents, but, when she decided to return home after a few months studying the coasts of Kinaztlan aztlan, she noted her original maps were no useful, thus understanding that the currents changed all the time. She decided to stay longer in open sea to understand and record these changes.
Even if she invested a great sum of money on a top notch ship, Darea's ship (called "New Life") suffered a lot during her voyages. When something could be improved, Darea recorded it to later write how effective the repairs and changes to the ship were.
Also, Darea's crew learnt from many cultures they visited across the world, gaining friends, crewmates, but most importantly knowledge of the waters they transverse.

Adaptation

Some years after the death of Darea, the contents of her ship were found in an abandoned warehouse. The merchants started reading the journals and understood the importance of its contents. The information described in them was synthesized and edited by expert writers to be distributed in the form of manuals.
Nowadays, any navigator, captain and shipwright who dares to sail the dangerous oceans of Lyssaria has read The Many Paths of the Lyssarian Waters. Darea wasn't a figure of note during her life, but now her name is eternal to the sailors in all Lyssaria.
