The Blightwood
"Aye, we used to have a farmstead bordering the Blightwood. We also used to have a son."
The Blightwood wasn't always known as such. Unfortunately, in the generations since the blights started appearing that name has been lost.
Hundreds of years ago stories started being told by traders who swore they were attacked by animated bushes while travelling through the wood. Since then, reports have only increased and the fatality rate of travellers along the Blightroad have skyrocketed. Tales of citizens who venture alone into the woods and return have all but disappeared, leaving only stories that fuel the nightmares of young children.
Geography
Temperate Continental Forest, generally flat with the occasional hill or valley. Regular precipitation and a high water table allow for the occasional forest animal to survive here.
Fauna & Flora
Classic woodland beasts used to roam freely in the woods, but these beasts' numbers have dwindled thanks to an uptick in the wolf population in recent years. Insects, arachnids, birds, rodents, snakes, bats and wolves are among the most populous species that yet survive in this diseased wood. Recently, non-endemic monstrous creatures have been sighted roaming the woods.
The coniferous and deciduous trees that made up this formerly beautiful forest hall almost all succumbed to disease. Sickly ferns, dead underbrush, and sinister vines coat the forest floor between the moss covered tree trunks that occasionally lie rotting.
Natural Resources
Wood from whatever trees may not yet be diseased. Formerly animals to hunt or trap for food and pelts. Its only value now lies in the perilous shortcut one can take between Lorlon and Estox, cutting travel time by two days.
