Finger Awl (/ˈfiNGɡər ôl/)

"I can end the lives of every person in this room with the tip of my finger, and you ask me if I've any last words?"
-Zgu-Thaum Master Krauhm

Effect

A section of the index finger (or primary digit for non-bibrachial species) becomes infinitely dense within a nanometer of its surface. Light passing into the range of effect cannot escape the digit's gravitational pull and as such, the digit becomes pitch black with gravitational lensing forming around it. The user may then use their digit as a potent melee weapon, cleaving through most non-anchored armor and electromagnetic shielding without resistance. Only Zgu-Thaum users of high echelon are known to adopt this pattern for self-defense and utility purposes, as the pattern is quite prone to catastrophic failure.

Side/Secondary Effects

When weaving this pattern fails, it often fails in spectacular fashion. The pattern itself makes no provision that it must be specifically used with the finger, however since the pattern is prone to failure, most Thaumaturges come to the conclusion that if a part of their body were to become irreparably damaged, the finger is the best option. Some legendary Zgu-Thaum masters have been able to successfully encase entire limbs in the pattern, however examples of this are few and far between.    When it fails, effects can range from a severed or mangled digit to complete annihilation via microscopic black hole. When students practice this pattern, it is usually done in isolation far from settled areas due to the catastrophic nature of failures.
