The Sunken Pint

The Sunken Pint is a tavern located in Thawra, in the Hassan Kingdom. The Sunken Pint is most known for its near basement level standing, and its often fee of entry being the clearing of the door itself from the piles of sands that tend to cover it throughout the day, having been unfortunately positioned to face the outside of town, looking into the desert.   Because of its position, the tavern was forced to put up a sandstone obelisk atop the roof in order to signal to customers it's position. Written in common on the obelisk are the words "The Sunken Pint" and "Food and Drinks" on alternating sides. The tip of the obelisk is made of topaz, and reflects the sun brightly near the end of the work day, covering the surrounding area in an orange light.   Embedded in the walls of The Sunken Pint are many small gems that sparkle during all hours of the day. These gems are from the mine and were not pure or big enough to be sold at any great value, so they were embedded in the wall to add a little ambiance to the tavern.   Primarily a tavern for the gem miners, the most busy times for The Sunken Pint is right after the last mining bell sounds, around 7. The miners can more often than not be heard lightheartedly complaining about the little bit of excavating work needed just to relax at the end of the day.   The biggest, and only, specialty food item is the Purple worm steak, which is a rarity and mostly chosen by those workers wishing to impress their friends. There is also the specialty drink "Overtime" which has its frosty mead below a layer of hard chocolate and ice-cream, meaning you have to work "Overtime" and dig a little more to enjoy the drink. The drink, however, is relatively expensive due to the chocolate and ice-cream needed to make it.   The owner, Azmi, is a retired human male miner who suffered an accident that left his left leg completely crushed. This injury is seldom seen, as he stays behind the bar in one spot almost all night. His room is also connected to the bar through an amber curtain, and hasn't been out of the Sunken Pint in years. Most of the help he gets for the bar is from his longtime friend Maytime, a goliath who decided to work in the tavern at the promise of free food and drink.

Alterations

The obelisk was formed in order to promote the tavern and guide patrons to it from all over town. The back rooms for Azmi were constructed after the Azmi lost his leg.

Architecture

The building was built out of an existing cave, with the façade creating using sandstone blocks. The obelisk is also made out of sandstone, and is made in the traditional Hassanian form.

History

The original tavern was created in 1227 after the Dahawad boom of 1225. The obelisk was created around 1303, and the small gems were slowly added to the main room in the years following that. In 1730 the back rooms were added following the mining accident that left Azmi injured.

Tourism

Most tourists who come to The Sunken Pint are drawn there by the obelisk marking it's location, but some are dissuaded to find that they may have to do a little digging before entering. It is still, however, one of the most well reviewed and reputable taverns in town. They might also be drawn to the tavern on the promise of real chocolate and "Iced-cream", which is a very rare amenity out it the Torrid Steppes. Furthermore, the tavern is known for the many small gems that light up the room, giving it a majestic atmosphere.
