Oberheim

Oberheim has a surprisingly well-documented history despite being one of the best-kept secrets of the pirating world. The harshness of the planet Arasram led the people to grow tough and secretive. They did not trust outsiders, especially the pirate travelers that initially discovered their growing settlement.


Despite the distrust of off-worlders, they were eager to trade for exotic goods and technology. The settlement grew into a large city relatively quickly and traffic from space pirates grew at an alarming rate. Within a few decades, Oberheim had grown into a metropolis. There were high-class upper-tier areas around the city, but the majority was a seedy-underbelly vibe usually hidden on more civilized planets.


The pirates wanted their freedom to live as they pleased and take a break from the endless traveling of the skies. Especially once the Act Against Piracy was enacted, and they were always being hunted. The local delicacies were so strange and enticing it was no wonder the pirates initially gravitated there.


With the new commerce, almost anything was widely available on Oberheim. It was practically a lawless palace, so long as the Aramskers stayed happy. When anyone caused enough of a disruption to services, the Aramskers dealt with them swiftly, and they could not return. The harsh punishment was a good enough deterrent for most visitors.


It was common for some folk to give up their pirating lifestyle to live a life of debauchery in Oberheim, but it was rare for those people to stay. Even in the city, life was still hard. The environment was harsh, and it took a lot of labor to keep the city alive. Labor on a planet that the space-faring pirates or nomads were physically ill-equipped. Due to the gravity and environment, it was easy for the Aramskers to maintain control of any physical altercation.
