Dragonfly Mount

I watch them with bated breath, unable to stop my wings from trembling, the excitement spilling over. He found me dragons!   Spider mounts are all very well and good. Which is to say, I hate them a lot less than I used to, now that I’ve come to know Myteka and her charming Rider, but they can’t hold a handle to dragonflies.   I know, I know, the benefit of spiders is their webbing and excellent home defense systems, and I don’t begrudge the Weaver clan their preferred strengths. But I mean, come on - how could you resist the allure of zipping through the air on the back of one of those magnificent insects.   Pix may be fast and vicious, but we’ve got absolutely nothing on dragonflies. They’re kings of the insect world, the best fliers, the most amazing technique, the most effective hunting strategies. It feels as though their energy is boundless, carrying me wherever I need to go tirelessly. They can hover in midair, stop and change direction in an instant, drop on our prey from above like so much silent death.   You might be wondering why such a creature would ally with a Pix, what we have to offer them. If I’m being honest, I think they just like us. But aside from that, a Snapping Dragon clan member knows how to provide what our dragons want. And what do they want? Mostly perches.   Oh yeah, dragons are serious about their perches. It’s the number one thing they murder each other over - not food, not water, not mates. Perches. So believe you me, I provide my mounts with the best perches available.   It’s a whole process actually, linking mounts to their perches with our special spells, so they’re the only ones who can safely use them. There has been some outrage in the past, from dragons who pushed their boundaries too much within Pix territory and paid the ultimate price, but, well… the other dragons put a stop to their whining, if you know what I mean.   I look out at the summer lilies, their stems covered in dragons, vying for the best seat, and feel my cheeks ache from the grin I can’t wipe off. I didn’t realize just how much I needed this.   “Thank you Iniko. You have no idea how much this means to me,” I say.   A rare smile ghosts across his face, lighting up his troubled countenance, and I try again to beat back my wildly inappropriate feelings for the other Rider. “Oh I think I know. What’re you waiting for? Go get yourself a mount!”
