This book contains a description of magical places bundled together from journals of many seasoned travellers, adventurers and explorers. Be warned, as many of the places described here may be dangerous to venture in upon risk of death.
An excerpt of the books most interesting contents is described below.
First and foremost, a location known by many is Talfore, the magic academy in the centre of
Purefall. Parts of it are freely accessible, yet other parts can only be entered with the highest clearance. In the southern part of Purefall lies the Necropolis, where necromancy is practised under strict regulation. Be warned, even though there are strict regulation, dangerous undead may lurk here from time to time.
The most eastern forest of
Eperone, Nord Gurvosat, is said to have been grown from a single magical tree in the middle of the forest. The
Dolon believe this tree is connected to all the trees and plants in the forest through its roots and regard it as sacred.
In the west of Eperone, surrounded by
Human settlements lies the magical city of E'neneas. It is the largest city on the entire continent and serves as a safe haven for elves and magical creatures. It is impossible to get into as an ordinary human, and when someone tries, the elves show no mercy. Some druids and arcane spellcasters from far away lands have been allowed entry, but with the greatest suspicion. They tell the greatest tales of the place, but it is unadvised to go there if you do not have magical roots.
In the middle of Eperone, just beyond the border of
Raljhaj, lies a desert. This desert has been reported to house many dark creatures and demons straight from the Abyss itself. The army of the Raljhaj Dynasty is trying to contain the demonic treats at the time of writing this book. Even so, venturing there alone will result in certain death, and is advised against.
Various explorers have reported an island of dragons, that lies multiple months travel south of Eperone. They state that dragons and the rare race of dragonborn live there together in harmony. As it is not known what the attitude of these creatures is towards our own civilisation, travelling there is at your own risk.
The next locations are less documented, some having only a single source or not a clearly known location. All these locations are considered highly dangerous by the authors of this book and it is advised to avoid these places!
One traveller has reported the presence of a mysterious secret passage in a cave in the Feln Highlands between
Calcett and
Purefall. He has not ventured inside there, thus there are currently no records of the things that lurk inside. He did report the presence of magic and 'strange and unfamiliar noises' coming from the passage. Enter at your own risk.
Deep in the mountains of
Begfuhn Ríki there is a place that is said to be haunted. Magic behaves differently in this area, sometimes it is stronger or weaker or more unpredictable. The source of this magic behaviour is unknown. An extra warning for those that study the arcane, as this place may have a dangerous effect on your own magical abilities.
In the most north-western part of Eperone, there is said to lie the ruins of a house built by the gods. Whether you believe the gods actually wandered Lumune or not, these ruins remain mysterious. The large metallic structures predate any known civilisation and could only have been built by giants. Even though there do live giants around that area, they claim not to know where it came from.
Then there are the brave few travellers that have crosses the seas and oceans to other continents, many of which have not returned. The few that have returned report the most horrible stories of monsters lurking around every corner. Deep jungles that make any man go crazy and deserts where temperatures are unbearable. Travelling there will likely result in death.
The Doors
Warning: do not pass through a strangely posted door without knowing where it will bring you or it will result in death.
This deserves its own section, as all over Eperone reports there have been reports of stand-alone doors, serving as a portal to mysterious places. Some doors are always posted at the same place and lead to the same place or sometimes a different one. Some doors appear temporarily and disappear when a person strolls through it. There have even been reports of doors leading to entirely different planes of existence. Upon opening the door it is sometimes visible what is on the other side, sometimes not. One of the authors of this book once stumbled upon a door that led to a strangely glowing lake of acid. Luckily, the door did not disappear and he got back home unharmed, yet somewhat dazzled.
There is also been multiple reports of one door leading to a haunted library. The ghost that residues in the library tests travelers by solving puzzles and only those smart and skilled enough have managed to escape.
