Furline

He climbed higher, no ordinary man could have reached this high without falling. With his tail he managed to keep his footing quite a few times. He listened, yes the target was close, he could hear his breathing. Out of nowhere the man jumped at him, but he was prepared…
Furlines are a subgroup of humans with feline features. Just as humans can have brown, blonde, red or another colour of hair, they can also have cat features. Two normal humans can give rise to one or even more children with some catlike features, such as cat’s ears, eyes, a wetted nose and whiskers or even fur or a tail, creating a furline. Children of furlines might be even more catlike as their parents, or show no features of felines at all. As rare as redheads in some communities or as abundant as brown haired people in another, furlines are socially accepted humans and have been present as long as people can remember. However, there are still parents that reject their feline offspring. Also some people are jealous of those with fur and might abuse or bully them for their reason.

Feline feature might arise in fairly rudimental forms, only changing the physical appearance of someone and not giving them any special advantages. In some cases however, these features have in fact gained a benefit. Some furlines have better balance because they gain support of their tail, or have better hearing as they can focus just like other. Some even have the ability to purr, while they might or might not have any visible cat features.   Age. Furlines age the same way as another other person, reaching adulthood in their late teens and live less than a century.
Size. Furlines vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. Furlines typically learn the languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects. They are fond of sprinkling their speech with words borrowed from other tongues: Orc curses, Elvish musical expressions, Dwarvish military phrases, and so on. Some are over excessive in the use of an ‘rrr’ sound.
Diverse. There are many different kinds of furlines, but they can be characterised in two groups: ‘domesticated furlines’ and ‘wild furlines’   Domesticated Furline
Domesticated furlines neatly fit in society and are really good with others. They mostly make excellent nurses and physicians, because they have excellent feeling for tending to and caring for people. Many work in hospitals or temples. Especially in wartimes, they are very useful and greatly respected.
Alignment. Most domesticated furlines tend to be good, although some can be real rebels and use their charm for their own benefit. Just like cats, they can have their own will and might be real stubborn.
Purring. You have gained the ability to purr and can use it to make people like you. Your Charisma increases by 1.
Nurse/Physician. Your natural ability to tend to others has gained you the healer feat:

  • When you use a healer’s kit to stabilize a dying creature, the creature also regains 1 hit point.
  • As an action, you can spend one use of a healer’s kit to tend to a creature and restore 1d6 + 4 hit points to it, plus hit points equal to the creature’s maximum number of Hit Dice. The creature can’t regain hit points from this feat again until it finishes a short or long rest.
Skill. You are skilful and gained proficiency in one skill of your choice.   Wild Furline
Wild furlines are mostly only bothered with themselves and their own freedom. They travel alone, but can pack together only if they gain benefit from it themselves. They have gained the ability to use one or more of their feline features to good use.
Alignment. Although they are loners, wild furlines tend towards no particular alignment. The best and the worst are found among them.
Predator. You are able to use your tail for balance: your Dexterity increases by 1. Or you have feline senses, being able to hear, smell, feel and/or see as a cat: your Wisdom increases by 1.
Cat perception. You are always on the look for danger. You gain the alert feat:
  • You gain a +5 bonus to initiative.
  • You can’t be surprised while you are conscious.
  • Other creatures don’t gain advantage on attack rolls against you as a result of being hidden from you.
Natural Skill. Your preferences for the wild have gained you proficiency in one of the following skills: Acrobatics, Animal handling, Athletics, Perception, Stealth or Survival.
