Marrus's Depression and Davasil's Pain

Summary

Prior to the Heaven War, the deities of Lumenos walked among mortals. Two of them were Marrus the god of music and Davasil the god of love. For centuries, the two had been married. Unlike any of the other deities, the god of music and love were never seen apart. The two loved each other more than anything, to the point that their followers would say "how can one have love without music. And certainly, no one can write music without love."
Shortly before the outbreak of the Heaven War Krimon Saint of Temptation appeared to Davasil. In the visage of a beautiful woman, she tempted the god of love away. Krimon lured him deep into the Hells where she seduced and imprisoned him. Krimon soon became pregnant, the first Saint or Deity to do so. Days before Mayim's rebellion Krimon gave birth to the Night Queen. While only a mere celestial, she would grow to become the mistress of fear and the night. The Saints of Mayim all started to work. As the rebellion started, they made sure to spread lies about Davasil and how he abandoned Marrus for Krimon and Mayim’s cause. Word would finally reach Marrus of this. He refused it at first, but as the days went on and still Davasil never appeared he began to give in. In a fit of depression, Marrus sang Pain Through Betrayal or Hallelujah in Celestial. The song was heard throughout the planes. As he sang nothing moved, the waves stood still, the air froze, even the war itself stopped. The followers of Marrus and Davasil fell to their knees and wept. Even Mayim and her Saints paused. Not a soul dared to disrupt it.
The war would resume but Marrus would sit in the heavens, unable to rise from his amphitheater. Angels, priests, and deities were all sent to help, each one would leave the theatre weeping. Until David. David was one of the lowest followers of Davasil, however, he never gave in. Throughout it all, David believed that his god was still on the side of the Heavens. He got word that Davasil had actually been captured and raced to Marrus’s domain. As he stood before the weeping god David started to sing. He sang a song of the sorrow and pain of Davasil. David retold the pains within the hells and begged Marrus to come to the aid of Davasil.
Marrus then rose. He gathered his host and charged the very doors of the Hells. As Marrus and his host charged the Hells IO and Vulcan waged the Heaven War above them. As IO's hammer forged the Sun Sword, Marrus's battle drums raged. The echoing sounds of IO’s hammer matching the thunderous beats of Marrus’s drums. Devils and angels alike fell as the god forced his way to Mayim's prison. Throwing open the doors all Marrus could see was Davasil blooded and hanging from chains on the wall. In a thunderous voice that shook the very core of Lumenos, Marrus broke the chains and pulled Davasil free from the prison. Returning to the service Marrus, Davasil, and their host were able to see the Sun Sword come down and strike Mayim; and the flash of light that forced all her followers into the Hells and all the deities into the Heavens. Marrus placed Davasil on their bed, carefully tending to his wounds. Davasil had been badly hurt and took many years to recover fully. However, during that time Marrus sent David fourth as the first, and last, Prophet of Love and Music. David would govern both churches until the day he died.

Historical Basis

Records of the Heaven War are not perfect but it is clear that Davasil and Marrus were absent for most of the war. It was not until Marrus lead the Grand Campaign  that either of them were noted as a part of the war.
David is confirmed to have lived during this time, as his remains were entombed within the central amphitheater in Radar Er. David's writings, mediations, songs, and other works are stored their as well.

Variations & Mutation

In the original, the word 'Hallelujah' was actually just the sound of Marrus's weeping, and the repetition of the word was where he was unable to speak. To the mortals, they simply heard it as 'Hallelujah' so it was copied into the first written version of the song. The original song, as sung by Marrus, did not have the first six lines. Those were added upon the death of David as a way of honoring him. In modern day Pain Through Betrayal is not performed without them.
The first six lines:
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor falls, the major lifts
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Cultural Reception

In modern day the Pain Through Betrayal is a central Panthean Funerary song for any follower of Marrus or Davasil. While those two churches will always preform Pain Through Betrayal some other churches will include it if the person was particularly loved or artistic.

In Literature

May literary works have incorporated Hallelujah in their title or throughout the book. Expesusaly if the work focuses on pain, betrail, or depression. In modern days a new genre of literature has become increasingly popular, known as Hallelujah or Hallelujah Fiction. Just like the books that share the name this genre focuses on sadness and depression as its cornerstones.

In Art

Due to Marrus being the god of art and song many sculptures, paintings, and other works have been created depicting Marrus weeping for Davasil and of Davasil bleeding in the chains of the Hells.

Performance of Pain Through Betrail

Lyrics of Pain Through Betrayal
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor falls, the major lifts
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well, maybe there's a God above
As for me all I've ever learned from love
Is how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
But it's not a crime that you're here tonight
It's not some pilgrim who claims to have seen the Light
No, it's a cold and it's a very broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Instrumental
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well people I've been here before
I know this room and I've walked this floor
You see I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
But listen love, love is not some kind of victory march, no
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And I remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove she was moving too
And every single breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Now I've done my best, I know it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come here to London just to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand right here before the Lord of song
With nothing, nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah
