Corruption of the Night Elves

Summary

Ralin Kaslean-Seeker was the great champion of the Kaslean tribe. She was renowned for her bow and ridding skills. The matrons of Kaslean sent her forward to speak with the Snow Elves and ask them to trade with Kaslean. Upon crossing the Uratin Mountains she saw the great frozen city of Lannlune. Towering walls, thousands of buildings, and enough room to hold fifty thousand Snow Elves. The city was the largest among the Snow Elf tribes. Ralin was overtaken by its power, beauty, and wealth. She was given a home all to herself and sat there for many nights thinking and reflecting. The Lannlune tribe agreed to trade with Kaslean and Ralin returned. Upon returning and explaining what she saw the matrons were so awed that they ordered the city to stop moving at once. The great dinosaur that held Kaslean was killed and sacrificed to the spirits. Upon the corps hitting the ground the world shook and stopped for a moment. Upon the world returning to motion the Wood Elves of Kaslean started to build new houses next to the great city. The now city of Kaslean stood for half a generation before the Wood Elves started to mine the Uratin Mountains. Finding gems, metals, and other valuable materials to trade to other tribes. The people of Kaslean found so much that they dug and dug until they opened a massive cavern. Legend says that this cavern was so large that all Elvan trips could fit inside it and there still be room to migrate. The people of Kaslean rejoiced and began exploring. At this time the Spirit Seekers of the city started to warn against mining and damaging the earth. They said that it would anger the spirits to harm what was theirs. Few within Kaslean listened to the Seekers. Once almost the whole city had descended into the cavern they started to hear voices. Madding voices that crept into their minds. The voice demanded that they mine and fight in the name of Drizlash the Nine Eyed. Slowly the elves succumb to the voice and obeyed. Drizlash rewarded each of the elves that fought or brought him ore with a curse and boon. The curse turned their skin pale and black forcing them to forever hide from the sun. The boon allowed them to see into the dark and understand its secrets. The few that remained in Kaslean field to other tribes and took with them the story of the Nigh Elves.

Historical Basis

It is known that the Nigh Elves were not among the first elves to live on Spire. They came after in some fashion. There is also a fossilized city that is near the Uratin Mountains, this is rumored to be what remains of Kaslean. No proof of the massive cave within the Uratin Mountains has ever been found. However, the Night Elves do make regular pilgrimages to a spot near those fossilized remains. No outsider has ever seen where the Nigh Elves go on these pilgrimages but rumor has it that it is the cave of Drizlash the Nine Eyed Corruptor.

Spread

This myth mainly is told within the tribes and Stone Cities of Spire. Almost every tribe has heard the story and believes it to be true at least in part, however, most members of the Stone Cities feel that the story has been well exaggerated by the tribes.

In Art

Many tapestries and carvings will show a massive nine eyed spider creating the Nigh Elves from blood and gold.
