The Deadwoods

The Deadwoods are a totally lifeless place, where no life can take hold. It is strongly avoided by even the most adventurous types, and forms a kind of northern border from the city that few cross.

Geography

The Deadwoods are located some distance to the north of the City, somewhere beyond the Haunted Sea. The Deadwoods are considered one of the most taboo places in the known region, and it is completely avoided whenever possible. To the people living in the area, the Deadwoods are a mystery, a place of absolute death where nothing lives. It is one of the most chilling examples of the horrors the old civilisation was capable of unleashing. The forest was once a fairly unimpressive pine forest on mostly flat ground, but some unknown device has rendered the entire forest barren for generations. No animals walk between the petrified trees, and no plants grow from the blackened earth. thick, low fog rolls out through the Forest most days, and some say that you can see the spectres of those who departed before their time.

Fauna & Flora

No plants or animals live in the Forest at all any more, though the trees still stand. They are mostly just trunks, most without any evidence of branches or leaves at all, and they have all been petrified to stone by some great and ancient force.

Natural Resources

It is highly likely that the river that spreads through The City comes from the Deadwoods or somewhere near it, but no serious attempts to map the forest have ever been made.
