Big Hat of Wizardly Wisdom

An object of great reverence, borderline worship, within the mages community. It is also the namesake of the Big Hats, wearers of the relics from Ethereum. Only 7 are known of, and each worn by powerful wizards. The hats are said to give wisdom to their wielders, possably by maximizing their mental facilities or increasing concentration. The brim becomes lined with teeth over time, and the flap down the back turns into a tongue and at some undetermined point, it will close around its wielder and devour them. Thus Big Hats will either pass on their hats, resetting the cycle or be killed by it. As many of the Big Hats see their time with the hat as the culmination of their careers as students of magic, and their being devoured as something essential to the hat and celebrated within their community, many embrace this fate willingly and travel with an understudy so that the hat can be taken if the devouring is ill timed.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The hat is said to grant great wisdom to the wearers through some magical means, though it retains some semblance of sentience and will, eventually, devour its wielder. Otherwise, it takes the form of a standard wizard's cap, which indeed may be based off of it. Has numerous tassels around the brim pointing down that turn into teeth and a cloth down the back of the neck.
