The Bloody Carladónian
The Bloody Calardónian is the only tavern in the city of Calardón. The tavern is controlled by Creot, a giant beast of stone and enslaver of the entire city. The tavern was established a short time after Creot took over the city in the year 327. Creot named the tavern after her tyranny and chose the person to own it, the barmaids and all workers. Even the patrons at the parlor are forced to be there to show their dedication to their intruding ruler.
Purpose / Function
The Bloodied Calardónian was made by Creot for the purpose of increasing the 'quality of life' of the citizens of Calardón. Creot, who usually sacrifices those that are most miserable in the city, found that there were too many miserable citizens and not enough time to sacrifice them all. Instead of killing the citizens in droves, she established a few locations to make them less miserable. Of course this establishment also came with a threat of death if her solution did not work as intended. Each worker and patron attending the parlor must feign an aura of joy and satisfaction or risk being sacrificed as the month's payment to Creot. Many workers at the Bloodied Calardónian have been sacrifice - so many that it has been called Creot's death row. Thus its purpose has shifted from making citizens happy to giving citizens a last chance before they're sacrifice as payment.
Alterations
Creot, as a beast of stone, is able to build create structures and monuments. The Bloodied Calardónian was created using this exact technique. Over the years Creot has made adjustments to the building to make it (a) harder for the workers to escape and (b) a less miserable place for people to visit. These alterations have included less doors and windows, bigger parlor space, and bigger rooms.
Architecture
The building is built entirely out of a mysterious type of unknown stone. It is the same stone that Creot is made out of, and what most of the other parts of town are made out of. Creot made some citizens work to install doors and windows when she could no longer easily construct the building - but other than these various pieces of wood the entire building is a cold stone.
History
In the year 327, Creot took over the town of Calardón. The town was small and insignificant but the entire northern island had a dense population. After gathering each person she could find into the town, she started building new buildings and laying down rules. She wanted to build a functioning city of her own, to ensure the happiness of her citizens and to become the sole ruler of a successful settlement. Unfortunately the strategy she employed to create this successful settlement was a strategy of subjugation rather than fairness.
In this master plan she created the Bloodied Calardónian, using the stone of her flesh. She picked a few random citizens to work the bar and to live there for the rest of their lives, as well as some patrons to spend their days there and to act as happy as possible. Over the hundreds of years of this system, each worker (who missed their families and friends) started to die in sacrifice over and over again due to their miserable natures. When a new worker entered the tavern, they would die within the next two months at most. Thus the tavern was seen not as another place of subjugation but rather as the last stop before death. The patrons have more or less stayed the same, as their job is nothing more than to travel to the tavern, to drink and eat, and to go home everyday. There are a few patrons who are required to stay in a few of the rooms, but they're allowed to stay with their wives and children. There are a few bards who are required to entertain sunrise to sunset. These bards are usually sacrificed every year or so mostly due to exhaustion.
"The barkeep pours another drink, and I look into his eyes. He smiles at me but behind those grinding teeth is evident immeasurable pain. The bard starts another tune and I smile right back" - Jean Sdrinan, A City of Blood
