Laduguer Character in Lost Waves | World Anvil

Laduguer

Originally, Laduguer was created by Moradin to act as a guide to the dwarves that dug deepest into the earth. The complex labyrinth they explored is now known as the Underdark. But Laduguer always pushed them harder to find more gold and more power.   Then the The First Breaking happened and things crept into the tunnels from outside reality as the dwarves knew it. Laduguer himself is said to have stood in the opening of one of the rips in the fabric of Realmspace to let his people run away from the initial catastrophe. But soon afterwards, these dwarves were captured by the newly arrived Illithid as slaves to work mines. This psychic oppression changed them and made them more brutal and cold-hearted. When the dwarves, now known as Duergar, rebelled and escaped, they once again found Laduguer who protected them. But the god too had been changed along with his people and Moradin no longer embraced them. In anger, Laduguer has nothing but resentment for other dwarves and encourages his followers to do better and become stronger than others, no matter the cost.

Holy Books & Codes

There are entire temples where every wall is an inscription with messages from Laduguer, but there are no first-hand sources that are written with ink on paper. This is partially a statement about the durability of the god, but it is also a way to make the text more easy to read in the pitch-black darkness of the Underdark.

Tenets of Faith

  • Work hard to defeat your competition.
  • A leader should inspire fear and confidence.
  • Duty is more important than care.
  • Those serving other gods are weak.
Everything about Laduguer's teachings is about hard work paying off in the form of power. Hard work that doesn't pay off isn't worth the trouble and should be pushed onto someone else. This hard work can mean everything from mining to leading raids to killing the competition within the clan. Just make sure you don't do anything that would actually make the clan fall apart.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Despite being very similar in temperament, Laduguer and Moradin hate each other more than anything else. But they share their distaste for the chaos of Gruumsh and his ilk. More than Moradin, Laduguer hates Corellon as well.   Many of Laduguer's allies are actually beings from the Far Realm, despite their history. He does seek out the The Onyx Knight or Asmodeus on occation, but for the most part, he stands alone and prefers it that way.
