Qualifications

This career is no longer legal, but it used to be quite popular. To become a magician, you have to get really good with various magic tricks. These tricks are all standard and are done by distraction, deception, and remarkably impressive sleight of hand. To join this career, you have to convince the head of your local branch with a trick. It does not matter which trick, but if you convince the local head, you can usually get the job.

Career Progression

There are three steps in this career. At the bottom, you have travelling magicians. They are responsible for travelling performances. They go to things like children's parties, and perform on streets and in taverns. Next up, you have performing magicians. They leave behind the travelling and set up in stages. They are incredibly good, and people used to pay to go to these shows. They do long, incredible magic shows, often taking people from the audience to show Then, above even that, are the managers. These often double as performing magicians, but also are the ones in charge of hiring new magicians.

Payment & Reimbursement

As a travelling performer, you only get paid in as much as you can pull in from performing. Those who perform at events often charge for their work, while street performers get money from being tossed a coin. Once they become a performing magician, they are paid 50gp per performance on top of anything else they make. Managers get paid 75gp per performance.

Other Benefits

Magicians used to become very famous due to their career. Due to the fact that there is no actual magic in Pelidore, their tricks that would be considered trivial in other places are remarkable. People are often amazed by their wide variety of tricks, from card tricks to cutting people in half, even though they usually know that they are simply tricks of the eye. Nowadays, this career is illegal. The pelidoric authorities decided it caused too many problems, and outlawed the practice of fake magic.
