Leinas

Leinas is Enónia's Holy Day and is celebrated from the first moment of Mushroomglow on the 28th of Palesun and continues until the Dimming on the 1st of Longsleep. The celebration is much beloved and celebrated in some form by nearly every culture in the Subterra and several on the Surface.

History

No one knows for sure when Leinas was first celebrated, but it is likely it began as a day when her followers would speak of her Glory in their local town centers. As worship of her began to spread, the traditions became more elaborate and festive until they were eventually codified, at least loosely, by her clergy.

Execution

The evening begins with a performance showcasing the story of Enónia's Ascension and defeat of Morea Sundeath, followed by a community feast, then music and dancing interspersed with smaller communal meals (and often naps), until it is time for the closing prayers and peaceful sleep.

Components and tools

  • A stage constructed every year, along with traditional costumes and props. Usually kept by the community's leader(s) in a safe location.
  • Homemade foods cooked and shared by all members of the community.
  • Cushions, blankets, chairs, pillows and other comfortable places to sit and/or nap brought by members of the community.
  • Instruments.

Participants

The roles of the members of The Band of Light are highly coveted and being selected to portray one of the legendary heroes in a Leinas Performance is a great honor.
All members of a community are welcome to watch the performance, and participate in the feast and dancing afterwards. It is a much beloved event that is looked forward to every year; larger community celebrations often drawing bards from both in the community and all around to keep the music flowing.
