Moon Reaper

This profession is one of the oldest in all of Weiria and across the Loren continent. Vast farms of Moon Thistle can be found in various climates too and the people that tent to these farms are called Moon Reapers. The thistle grows quickly and as a kind of prickly bramble with bulbous flowers that bloom at the beginning of fall. The Moon Thistle plant has a particular trait that makes it coveted the world over: the Moon Thistle glows a brilliant sapphire color when in direct moonlight. Curiously, every new age - which is heralded by the moons shift in color - the Moon Thistle plant takes on the color of the new Moon.
Moon Reapers derive their name from the time they harvest the Moon Thistle which is when the Moon is at its highest point in the night sky and the thistle glows its brightest. The milk inside of the Moon Thistle is then distilled into an extract that can be added to food and drink. While adding a distinct maple-like taste, it also gives any food and drinks a glow when under moonlight.
The Moon Thistle extract is especially coveted during the time of the Gilded Moon when every 5 years the Moon turns a shade of gold in the night sky. Festivals are held in nearly every part of the world on this day with all manner of festive ales and candies that glow gold in the moonlight.
Many people believe that Moon Reapers got their name because of the venom that the plant's barbs used to produce that in large quantities could induce a coma. This may have been the origin of the Reaper portion of the name, but since then the venom has been bred out of the Moon Thistle and is perfectly harmless to touch.
