Aurameres

These cavernous wells are found throughout the world. The largest known one is at the center of the Craven Islands within the Blistering Isles. The origins of the aurameres are unknown. They simply have always been, which has lead many cultures to revere them as scared sites. Perhaps, they are. They burrow deep in to ground, so deep, in fact, that no man has ever reportedly found the bottom of one. Every few months or so, the wells erupt and spit great columns of fire into the sky, warping the wind and sea around them and giving rise to earthquakes. Exotic flora and fauna have adapted to the well's extreme energy, creating it's own self-contained biosphere.
