The Orcs

D&D 5E

  • Ability Score Modifiers: +2 Strength, +1 Wisdom. OR choose one of (a) Any +2, any other +1 or (b) Any +1, any other +1, any other +1.
  • Size: You are medium.
  • Speed: 30 feet.
  • Darkvision: You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Beastmaster: You have proficiency in your choice of either the Animal Handling or Nature skill.
  • Stormlashed: You have resistance to Thunder damage.
  • Thunder's Endurance: You can focus yourself to occasionally shrug off injury. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled, and reduce the damage by that total. After you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
  • Languages: You begin play speaking, reading, and writing Common and one language in which you were raised, which for the Orcs is typically Otchipwe. Orcs may, if desired, choose one bonus language that you and your DM agree is appropriate.

  • Beastmaster: Orcs have a spiritual kinship with fantastical beasts, capturing them for sport or living and hunting with them. Orcs treat whips and nets as martial weapons and gains a +2 racial bonus on Handle Animal and Ride checks.
  • Toothy: An Orc's tusks are large and sharp, granting a bite attack. This is a primary natural attack that deals 1d4 points of piercing damage.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Orcs of the Farplain typically use two sets of names; their traditional Orcish names, which are their true names, and the often inaccurately translated outsider names given to them by those from the Old World. While true Orcish names are gendered, their outsider names are usually applied to either gender.   The accepted use of outsider names is split among the Orcs. Some dislike the use of their outsider names and look down on those who refuse to use their traditional names, while many others take no offense to the use of these names. To them, they are simply an inoffensive way of simplifying communication between very different cultures and do not regard their use as a part of the Old World's conquest of the New.   Many Orcish families that have left the Farplain and settled in other parts of the world adopt traditional names from their new homeland, although this is often met with derision from their kinfolk and scorn from their adopted communities.   TRADITIONAL ORCISH NAMES
