The Halflings

Slaves of the Black Land

Halflings were slaves in Khayu, and had been for millennia until Anshan the Great decreed that every Halfling in Khayu was to be freed upon his discovery of a slave camp in Tamiat. They quickly rose up against their Pharaonic masters and joined the Ahuran Elves in their conquest. Ever since then there has been no firmer friendship in the world than that between Elves and Halflings.

Halflings have unbreakable bonds within their family units that they value more than anything else in their lives, and they have almost as strong connections within their communities. Halflings love a good time, and despite their displacement from their homeland, their former slavery, and the discrimination they still face in Khayu, the Halfling quarters of any city or town are practically never-ending communal celebrations and festivities.

A halfling never fails to find the positive in any situation.  

D&D 5E

  • Ability Score Modifiers: +2 Dexterity, +1 Charisma. OR choose one of (a) Any +2, any other +1 or (b) Any +1, any other +1, any other +1.
  • Size: Halflings average a little over 3 feet tall and weigh about 40 pounds. Your size is Small.
  • Speed: Your speed is 25 feet.
  • Lucky: When you roll a 1 on an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll.
  • Brave: You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
  • Fierce Defiance: When you damage a creature with an attack or a spell and the creature's size is larger than yours, you can cause the attack or spell to deal extra damage to the creature. The extra damage equals your level. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
  • Halfling Nimbleness: You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.
  • Ever Hospitable: When you make a Charisma (Persuasion) check or an ability check involving brewer's supplies or cook's utensils, you can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the ability check.

STANDARD RACIAL TRAITS
  • Ability Score Modifiers: Halflings are nimble and strong-willed, but their small stature makes them weaker than other races. They gain -2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, and +2 Charisma.
  • Size: Halflings are Small creatures and gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
  • Type: Halflings are Humanoids with the Halfling subtype.
  • Base Speed: 20 Feet
  • Languages: The Halflings begin play speaking Hieratic and the common language of their homeland. Halflings with high intelligence may choose additional languages from: Ahuran, Ghukliuk, Iwisan, Izinyo, Kush, Otchipwe, and Vulcanic.
  • Halfling Luck: Three times per day, a Halfling can gain a +2 luck bonus on an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. If Halflings choose to use the ability before they make the roll or check, they gain the full +2 bonus; if they choose to do so afterward, they only gain a +1 bonus. Using adaptive luck in this way is not an action.
  • Driven Worker: Halfling families have developed techniques to accomplish work faster and more efficiently, whether to contribute to the community or to please overbearing masters. These halflings gain a +4 racial bonus on checks with one Craft, Perform, or Profession skill.
  • Irrepressible: Halflings receive a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against dominate and possession effects. This bonus stacks with the bonus granted by Halfling luck.
