STANDARD RACIAL TRAITS
  • Ability Score Modifiers: The Deku are quick, with dynamic and engaging personalities. +1 Dexterity, +2 Charisma. OR choose one of (a) Any +2, any other +1 or (b) Any +1, any other +1, any other +1.
  • Creature Type: Plant
  • Size: Small/Medium. You choose the size when you select this race.
  • Speed: 30 Feet
  • Creature Type: Your creature type is Plant, rather than Humanoid.
  • Curiosity: The Deku love to learn about other cultures. You have proficiency in the Persuasion skill.
  • Arboreal Vitality: You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage.
  • Barkskin: Deku have tough, rugged skin. Your AC can't be less than 16, regardless of what kind of armour you're wearing. If you are using a shield or magic item that provides a bonus to AC, you can apply those bonuses as normal.
  • Evolutionary Adaptation: You know the Thorn Whip cantrip.
  • Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the Goodberry spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level you can cast the Pass Without Trace spell with this trait. Once you cast Goodberry or Pass Without Trace with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast either of those spells with spell slots you have of an appropriate level.
    Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait, which you choose when you select this race.
  • Languages:You can speak, read, and write Common and Sylvan, or one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for your character.

STANDARD RACIAL TRAITS
  • Ability Score Modifiers: The Deku are quick, with dynamic and engaging personalities, but are rather fragile. They gain +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, +2 Charisma.
  • Size: Deku come in a variety from Small to Medium sized creatures. Small Deku gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks while Medium Deku gain no advantages or disadvantages.
  • Type: Deku are Fey with the Plant subtype but lack the immunities to mind-affecting effects, paralysis, poison, polymorph, sleep, and stunning that the plant type usually grants.
  • Base Speed: Small sized Deku are quick for their size, and have a base movement of 30 Feet as Medium Deku do.
  • Languages: Deku begin play speaking Sylvan. Deku with high intelligence may choose any additional languages.
  • Bark Skin: Deku have tough, rugged skin and so gain a +2 Natural Armor bonus to AC.
  • Creator's Legacy: Infused with the spiritual magic of their creator, Deku quickly take to nature-based spells and spellcasting. Deku bloodragers and sorcerers with the verdant bloodline treat their Charisma score as 2 points higher for sorcerer spells and class abilities. Deku clerics and druids with the Plant domain use their domain powers and spells at +1 caster level. This doesn’t give the Deku early access to level-based powers; it affects only powers that could already be used without this trait.
  • Curiosity: Deku love to learn about other cultures. They always treat Diplomacy and Linguistics as class skills, and they gain a +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy and Linguistics checks.
  • Unassuming Foliage: Deku gain a +4 racial bonus on Stealth checks in forests.
 
RACIAL TRAITS
  ARBOREAL VITALITY: Some Deku draw exceptional nourishment from any kind of tree through their trunk roots, although their legs are much more delicate. A Deku with this racial trait has a speed of only 20 feet, but gains fast healing 2 for 1 round whenever he is adjacent to a living tree larger than he is. The Deku can heal up to 2 hit points per level per day with this ability, after which it ceases to function.   BODY THORNS: Deku that mature in particularly hostile environments develop thorns on their vines to protect them from overeager herbivores. You are considered to be wearing masterwork armor spikes when not wearing armor or bulky clothing, and are proficient with armor spikes. These thorns can be sundered or destroyed as if they were a worn object (hardness 1, 5 hp), but grow back 1 week later.   BOWER BORN: Some Deku sprout beautiful but delicate hibiscus flowers on their vines and emit a seductive pheromone. You gain a +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy and Handle Animal checks.   DISGUSTING: Some Deku who grow in fetid soil become corrupted, causing their taste to become particularly disgusting. Such Deku gain a +2 racial bonus on Escape Artist and combat maneuver checks to escape a grapple against any creature that has a bite attack with the grab ability.   GRAPEVINE: A Deku made from a grapevine can produce magically infused fruit that can heal her allies. She can cast goodberry once per day as a spell-like ability, with a caster level equal to her character level.   LASHVINE: Some vine Deku can sprout whip-like appendages. These individuals gain proficiency with whips and scorpion whips. As a free action, the Deku can turn one hand into a lashvine. A lashvine is a primary natural attack that deals 1d3 points of bludgeoning damage. A lashvine cannot hold items, wield weapons, or perform fine manipulation.   MAGICAL ABSORPTION: Deku gain nourishment from absorbing magic. Whenever such a Deku succeeds at a saving throw against a spell or spell-like ability, she regains 1 hit point per level of the spell, though this affects the Deku only if she is above 0 hit points. A Deku can use this ability a number of times per day equal to her level.   POISONOUS: Deku can be made from poison ivy vines carry natural poison in their bodies. As a swift action, the Deku can imbue its vines with this irritating substance. The next time the Deku hits a creature with an unarmed strike, the creature is affected by the following poison. Deku Toxin: Unarmed strike—injury; save Fort DC 10 + half the Deku’s Hit Dice + the Deku’s Constitution modifier; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect sickened for 1 round; cure 1 save. The Deku can use this ability a number of times per day equal to its Constitution modifier (minimum 1). A Deku is immune to its own poison, but not to those of other Deku.
