The Greyhelm Family

The Greyhelm family is exactly what you would imagine from a family of Drow Elves; calculated, patient, and very cunning. The oldest member of the family, the matriarch, Filyanna Greyhelm, appeared in Clarathos over 400 years ago after climbing up from the underdark. The Greyhelm mostly stick to themselves and don't socialize with many people, so most of the peasant class has little to nothing to say about them.   While they live in a seemingly modest manor, there are deep catacombs built into the mountain, connecting the Greyhelms to their underdark kin, and giving them the auspicious position as the diplomats between the Aduran nobles (especially Iven Rex, the king) and the dwarves of the Viridi Mountains, who do not recognize him as king and hardly leave their tunnels at all. But even more importantly, the Greyhelms host the drow and other races of the under dark (duergar, svirfneblin, and more) at their home when the Aduran nobility need to enact peace treaties, trade deals, and other diplomatic activities.    The cultures of the underdark and the aboveground world are disparate: the Lords of Heaven are nonexistent in their mythology (though some are still worshiped in different forms), they use different kinds of magic, materials for crafting, and speak different languages. These make under dark resources very rare and valuable to the aboveground residents, and vice versa. The Greyhelms are paid handsomely by both sides to facilitate the trading of goods, which is why they continue to host these talks, despite being private people and (presumably) would prefer to never have strangers within their home.
