Ouran

Tied to both nature and the plane of Dreams, the Ouran are a very passional people. They usually live among nature, and love all the arts and magic. They live very long lives, almost a thousand years. They dedicate a lot of that time to the pursuit of their hobbies and personal growth, but usually have little time for petty grudges or gaining political or monetary power. Farmers, carpenters and builder Ourans are as common as singers, acrobats, scientists or warriors. There is an old grudge between Ouran and Elves that endures through all the ages.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are short and slender humanoids, very similar to humans and elves. They all have semi prehensile tails that grow in their backs, and furry ears. The irises of their eyes are unusually big and colorful, while their pupils have all kinds of shapes except the regular circles. Every individual has another animalistic trait, like horns, markings on the skin, feathers instead of hair, whiskers, fangs, etc...

Growth Rate & Stages

Ouran mature quite rapidly, almost like humans, and by age 20 they have a full-grown body. Due to their long lives, they do not come of age just by reaching a certain age, but when both they and a few of their peers decide that they really are. Usually, there is some kind of achievement involved, like a builder finishing a fine construction, a musician being recognized by its peers or a farmer improving their crops' yield.

Ecology and Habitats

Most Ouran live in natural environments. Rapos Ouran make great cities and model nature to fit their aesthetics. Lynkos usually do it the other way around, building around trees, ponds or hills. Pathos Ouran live mostly in dark jungles where the light doesn't reach the floor, in caves or in the western continent where magic has stopped sunlight from ever shining.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Ouran divide in small communities, each ruled by a Clan Representative. Seventeen recognized Clans rule their people, and among those, a Daihyo, or Speaker, rules them all.

Facial characteristics

They have big eyes usually of saturated shiny colors. Their irises are never just regular circles, instead, they have other shapes like cat slits, or rectangles like goats, triangles, collections of dots, etc... Their ears look animal-like. Ouran Rapos usually have triangular ears like foxes, cats, or some breeds of dogs, or long ears like rabbits or hares. Lynkos usually have "droppy" ears like some breeds of dogs. Pathos usually have round ears like bears or big felines. Due to crossbreeding, though, almost all kinds of ears are seen in any subrace.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Ouran are used to low light environments and the twilight in their forests, so they can see in the dark. Due to their ties to the Dream Plane, their dreams are usually full of meaning. Almost all of them have a few premonitory dreams in their lifetime, but some are more attuned to it, and have them almost every night, while others can move in the Dream plane freely, and even check on the dreams of others.

History

Ouran were created by the Astral Dragons , mixing humans with essence extracted with the Dream Plane.   They were born almost at the same time that Orcs, Lizardmen, and Eladrin were made in a similar fashion as human mutations, and a few centuries before the Dragonborn were born. They lived with the Astral Dragons in The First Empire among Elves and Kobolds. Eladrin were considered a brother race, and in the beginning, they often didn't even consider themselves all that different. From the union of Ouran or Elves, the Satyrs were born. Friction started when Satyrs started to become more common, as either race blamed the other for the short lifespan of their offspring.   Satyrs discovered a new magic power, deeply linked to nature, and the Astral Dragon Druuid helped them nourish and master it. This new magical power was called Druidism. It was a completely different magic to the Arcane powers of the Dragons.   After a long time under the rule of the Astral Dragons, both Eladrin and Ouran started to clamor for more political agency. They lived as pampered pets, and wanted actual independence. After the coming of the Dragonborn and their instantaneous superior status to the other races, a short-lived rebellion took place, and it ended when the rebels where almost defeated, and the Eladrin Nicht and a group of Druids reached into the Umbral plane and broke a piece of it with her, splintering the Astral Dragon race into multiple, lesser subraces. These races were polarized between good, evil, different elements and ways of life. The Dragons started battling each other, with armies at their heels.   It was then when mortals of Loracis discovered praying. They had never had a reason to ask for help to any divine force, but when they did, their pleas were answered. Seventeen Outsider Divinities traveled to Loracis, and forced the Dragons into submission. That began the Divine Era of Loracis.   During this time, the Ouran divided themselves in as many Clans as Gods had come to help, but continued living in the remains of The First Empire. The gods loved Loracis and their inhabitants, and decided to live among them. Hearing of the tales of the Astral Dragons magic, the Divinities rewired the fabric of Loracis to replicate their Arcane powers, while at the same time they just made miracles to either help mortals or satisfy themselves.   Then the Mirror Break took place, when one of the Divinities breached the Umbral plane and everything escaped out of it. It broke the world, and broke the Ouran into three sub-races: The Rapos, Lynkos and Pathos. That's when their animosity with the Eladrin (now Elves) really started and they separated. The Ouran took the northern side of the world while the Elves took the southern side, living separatedly, except for the Dark Elves and Pathos Ouran, that joined and enchanted a good portion of the western continent to cover the now corrupted light.   The Rapos Ouran formed the Nahn Rise Empire, while the Lynkos decided to live in independent communities.
