Missile Weapons [MW]

Rockets and missiles - despie he ages that passed since their discovery - remain an important part of every navy military doctrine. This is mostly because of how versatile there are, and that their independent propulsion and ability to maneuvre meaning that they can target ships on a very large distance.   Despite this, 99% of military engagement in space doesn't finish merely with missile salvoes. Because of its limited ability to destroy enemy ships - mostly due to strenght of modern ECM systems and AV Defense - rockets are normally used to soften the enemy before he enters an artillery range.   Missiles are mostly divided in three main categories.   Conventional Rockets are similar in shape, size and complication level to atmospheric rockets from XXI century. They are used en masse, and rarely have a maximum range longer than a ten thousand kilometres. Despite this, they normally have at least a small nuclear warhead and can damage even capital ships and leviathans (of course the damage will be limited to outer hull, destroying such ships is out of conventionall rockets ability).   They are used mostly by voidcrafts, and to counter them. Their small size and low value means that they can be used truly en masse, with even a meager bomber firing a dozen of them per second. The damage, on the other hand, is small. They are however hard to destroy by ECMs and AV Defense. Electronic countermeasures are completely useless because most of them lacks any sort of guiding measures. Anti-voidcraft defense in the same time often finds them hard to find hit (due to their extremely small size and rapid evasive maneuvers).   Light Shipkillers are heavier missiles, often compared to old Terran ICBMs. Only bigger and used for a completely different jobs. Unlike the conventional rockets (in most cases launched from a small, moving turrets) they are often made similar to said ICBMs on submarines - including a metal 'silos'.   They are much more internally complicated, have much stronger engines and (universally) a sophisticated guiding systems. Their preferred targets are escort ships or heavily damaged capital ships. They can be internally divided into two category. Missiles loaded into ships (in most cases cruisers) that are expected to operate independently have shorter range (up to 5-10 million kilometres) but higher velocity. Those ships that are expected to operate as a part of a fleet, together with capital ships, in most cases are armed with missiles that sacrifice velocity for increased range, normally reaching that of SKs.   Shipkillers are the heaviest missiles, essentially being bigger versions of Light Shipkillers. There are made to hunt capital ships or leviathans. Each of those monsters has an effective range of 20-30 million kilometres (with some specialized missiles reaching up to 100 mil. km). They also have the strongest possible warheads and the best guiding systems. Despite this, they still fall quickly to ECM systems and are vulnerable to AV Defense.   On the other hand, a single hit by SK missile can and probably will instakill any escort ship and heavily damage even the strongest ships. Making whole waves of these missiles dangerous even if a single one has no chance to pierce through.
