The Basics in LodgeQuest | World Anvil

The Basics

In LodgeQuest, you create a world from nothingness by completing the goals you set for yourself and taking care of your health. If you are healthy and happy, everything will be just a little bit easier, after all.   In short:
  1. Complete tasks off of your to-do list to earn XP.
  2. Every 1000 xp, you level up.
  3. Every level up, you get rewards that you use to create a world.
That's the gist of it. Don't worry if it seems like all you are doing for yourself is creating more work - your LodgeQuest world should be kept as simple as possible. Let's take this one step at a time.

Setting Up Your Lodge

First, set up the space for your LodgeQuest. I recommend creating a World for it right here on WorldAnvil, but if you are limited in how many you have, there are options. You can make it a part of an existing world, just for you, or even keep these things in a notepad.   This will be both the dungeon that houses the wicked to-do items that will be defeated, and where you track the richly earned rewards for doing so.   Things you should track:
  1. Your XP!
  2. Your Creations!
  3. Your Trophies (More on that later)!
Things you could track if you wanted to:
  1. Your Total Level
  2. Other lodges that you want to support!

The Dreaded To-Do Dragon

Oh no, I have so many things to do!
The first step is to create the list of what you want to do today. They should be things you have planned, and can be anything - work on an article, clean your desk, groom your goldfish. LodgeQuest rewards time spent rather than how far you got; if you made a commitment to sit down and write for an hour and did so, that's a win. These are your Daily Quests.   It doesn't matter if you ended up with a 100 words or 10, as long as you did the thing you wanted to do.   If you aren't sure exactly what you want to do today, well, here's a handy dandy table of Daily Quests you can do!

Hmm.. What should I do?

I might be biased, but a good one might be to set up your LodgeQuest stuff!
This is important, that's why it is in bold: You may only have 6 items on your daily to-do list for LodgeQuest.   Don't try and cheat this one - give yourself some space to breath and not get overwhelmed with too many things to do!
In addition, set aside one thing you want to do this week. Something that'll take more than a day, or something you've worried about, or will just take up more of your energies: this is your Weekly Quest.   What happens when you have done the thing? Well, I'm glad you asked.

Rewards

Completing daily and weekly quest gives you XP. See below how much.
Every time you level up, you roll in this here fancy table to see what you get.
And because you are pretty awesome and Did The Thing, everytime you complete a Weekly Quest, you roll in this table.
Now you are probably wondering, what do I do with all this stuff?

What You Do With This Stuff

Essence is the stuff of the universe. It is cosmic stardust, quinessence, the atoms of creation. You spend Essence to create Articles, craft Descriptors, or apply Links to your LodgeWorld.   That's how it grows, with every accomplishment and every goal-goblin defeated.
What's A Descriptor?
A descriptor is like a meta-physical tag; a summary of traits, boiled down to a single word. With these, you create without worrying about details - just let your imagination take you for a ride. A mountain with a descriptor of Crystalline may be a single quartz of titanic proportions, piercing the sky and gleaming in the sun, or crowned by glittering crystals that grown every peak and and ridge.   Descriptors stack, too. How that looks, well, that depends on you and whoever reads it. A good descriptor is a single, evocative world that brings something to mind; mountainous, bloody, haunted, armored, humanoid, betentacled - whatever you like.
If you need some descriptor ideas, here's a list:
Descriptors!

This is what you can do

This is what it means

  Create an Article
Create a new article. The type depends on the Essence (see below).   All articles start with one Descriptor.   Create Descriptor
This creates a new Descriptor and lets you apply it to any Article you like.   Create Link
Lets you create a Link - a type of Descriptor applied to the relationship between two articles. More links lets you link more things together, too.   Change Descriptor/Link
Lets you alter a descriptor from one thing to something else. Magic!   Will the be more things to do? Maybe!   Each essence is different in what they can do. And what's that? This!
That's about it, for now. Create stuff to earn rewards, use those rewards to create a tiny little world, and watch it grow along with your accomplishments. Now go get 'em.
Table Of Content

Step By Step:

  Step 1: Create a Lodge

You got this. I believe in you.   Step 4: Calculate your rewards
Check the list and roll some dice to see what you get.   Step 5: Expand Your Lodge
Use your rewards to create thing for your lodge.   Step 6: Rest
Time to take a moment to relax! You've earned it.

Terminology

Daily Quest - To do items.   Weekly Quest - Big to do items!   LodgeWorld - The creation made from playing LodgeQuest   Red Essence - One of the three things you accumulate. Spend them to do things, like create for your LodgeWorld   Blue Essence - Another one!   Green Essence - And the third one, but this one is green   Article - Your world consist of Articles, they are one of two building blocks with which you create your LodgeWorld. These are Things In Your World   Descriptor - This is the second building block, applied to article. They are What/How Things Are   Link - A type of Descriptor, but applied between articles instead of on them, to detail how they relate

Monsters Of Many Names

It is optional, but highly encouraged, to pretend that you are defeating wicked foes when you progress through your LodgeWorld. Goal Goblins, To-Do Dragons, Work-Item Warlock, the Thing That Must Not Be Delayed are some examples.
It's so slow!   It might seem that building your world is at a slow pace - and that's the idea. Don't rush yourself, but let things flow.   For those who want something extra, maybe I'll put something together, or you can check out Dani's To-Do Adventures!

Visualization

If you want, it can be fun to create a small visual representation of your LodgeWorld. Imagine every article you create being a tile in a puzzle, for instance, and everytime one is created you place it on the board.   I recommend using a Mind-Mapping software or something similar, so you keep it simple. Remember, it's supposed to be quick.
