I grinned and let my fangs flash a little. “Really real. Though I’m not Romanian or Transylvanian or anything. I’m Finnish.”
“A Finnish vampire?” he asked me and there was that charming skepticism again.
“Born in Vaasa in 1732 as Lucia Larsson,” I told him agreeably. “I go by Lilja or Lili now. Gotta keep switching it up when you live forever.”

Lilja first visited Sean's windowsill when Sean was five years old. They became friends until Sean was old enough to show a romantic interest, at which point Lilja vanished from his life for several years. His senior year of high school. Lilja returned long enough to realize that she was in love with Sean, too. She fled again, but followed Sean to college as his protector until he figured out she was there. Their relationship blossomed from friendship to love after that.
