Lamia
The caves near the Eastern Shore are home to the Lamia. Docile yet industrious by nature, the Lamia make their living mining gems.
They trade gems and the discarded skins of their young for Dwarven tools and other supplies and luxuries.

It's a big snake with arms.

As their lungs take up a significant portion of their body, they are excellent divers.
Genetics and Reproduction
after mating, they lay their eggs in the warm sand. After hatching the baby Lamia spend their childhood playing and hunting shore-birds and shrimp.
Growth Rate & Stages
Lamia shed their skins yearly until they reach adulthood, at which time they grow a row of spines down their back.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Lamia are carnivorous and they need only the fowl and seafood they harvest. However, they have been known to purchase other meat products from other sources.

They mate once during the year, in spring.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
by placing their jaw on the cave wall and tapping it with a hammer, they are able to detect faults in the stone where veins of gems and other ores form. This ability makes them popular guests of Mountain Dwarves wanting to find another vein.

Due to their lack of external genitalia and snake-like skin, Lamia tend to have no need for clothing but are known to wear armor when appropriate.
History
Once a monsterous race, the evil and violent of their species tended to get themselves killed by "adventurers", until the more intelligent and docile eventually took over the gene-pool.
